We recently sent a set of our Micro & Gaming Kolinsky sable brushes to Stuart Mack of Miniature Realms, a miniature painting channel on YouTube. Stuart waited until he had a project that would give the brushes a proper workout, and he has now posted a short review: Hawk Miniatures Kolinsky Sable Brushes – The Best Miniature Painting Brushes You’ve Never Heard Of?
If the video doesn’t load above, watch it on YouTube.
What Stuart made of them
“I really love them, they genuinely feel great in the hand, but what has impressed me most is how well they hold a point – not only after painting but during brush strokes. The feeling of control just stands out.”
Stuart worked mostly with the round sizes 0, 1, 2 and 3, and used the synthetic flats for applying contrast and speed paints. The brushes also feature in a full painting video coming to his channel shortly, so keep an eye out for that.
This is exactly what the Micro & Gaming range was designed for: a sharp Kolinsky sable point that holds its shape through the stroke, on an ergonomic polished walnut handle, at a price that makes sense for tabletop painters.
